Private Flute Lessons:
One-on-one lessons with a private instructor can significantly improve a young musician’s ability and confidence on his/her instrument…and finding the RIGHT teacher can make an even bigger impact. A lessons instructor should inspire students to want to become a stronger musician; carefully balancing a rigorous music education with a caring and empathetic understanding of the unique needs of every musician.
Through his years of experience as a band director and private flute instructor, Mr. Spencer Katz provides a nurturing environment for students to grow and learn as a musician. Utilizing Feldenkrais methodologies and Alexander techniques, learned through his instruction with professor Eva Amsler at the Florida State University, Mr. Katz is able to tap into every student’s true potential as a performer.

His experience teaching band has allowed him to develop and acquire a wealth of resources for directors to utilize when providing guidance to their young flute players. Mr. Katz has presented his resources at numerous professional development and in-service trainings around the state. Most recently, he has presented on a panel of directors about virtual teaching solutions in the music classroom.
Wedding/Special Event Performances:
Live music is a beautiful addition to any special event such as a wedding or ceremony. For years the flute has been used in wedding ceremonies as it has a beautiful voice-like quality that is not overpowering in small spaces. Often accompanied by piano or harp, the flute can provide music before a ceremony, interludes during the main event, or background music for a cocktail hour.
Spencer Katz has performed at a number of special events working with event planners and hosts to tailor the music to match their desires. Through his network of musicians, Mr. Katz has performed solo, accompanied by piano, and as part of a number of flute trios.

Spencer graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University with a Bachelors of Music Education and Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance. He has studied with Eva Amsler and played in masterclasses for Karl-Heinz Schütz, Aldo Baerten, Shalev Ed-Al, Magda Schwerzman, and Linda Mark. He was a finalist in the Florida Flute Convention Young Artist Competition in 2014. Spencer has performed with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, University Symphony Orchestra, University Philharmonic Orchestra, and University Wind Ensemble at Florida State University.
Mr. Katz is currently a private flute instructor and a guest clinician at numerous middle and high schools in Seminole, Orange, Polk, and Pinellas Counties. He serves as the Competition Chair for the Florida Flute Association’s High School Young Artist Competition. Mr. Katz has given masterclasses at Florida Southern College, Polk County Music Educators Association, and Pinellas County Music Educators Association.
